The Regional Development Chairman of the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) and president of the City League R. Puvanendran slammed FFSL administrators stating that football had taken a nose-dive due to their irresponsible and dictatorial ways.

“We came together and established the current Committee because of the former president Ranjith Rodrigo’s dictatorship. We worked very hard to bring this Committee seeking good governance and transparency but the president of the FFSL Anura de Silva is behaving like the previous Committee,” said Puvanendran.

He said the FFSL was wasting money without a proper plan and vision and Anura de Silva was taking decisions based on the two Committee presidents disregarding the executive committee. “I’m holding my position just for documentation purposes and all the decisions are taken by the FFSL president,” said Puvanendran.

He said the tournament committee was selfish in making decisions and created many issues. “During the Champions League some matches were cancelled without taking proper decisions. Some matches were cancelled because of their friendly attitude towards some clubs. Too many unfair decisions were taken during the Champions League. I requested Sports Minister Harin Fernando to visit our Exco meeting as an observer so he will realize the reason why football is in the dumps,” said Puvanendran.

He said Japan and Korea donated sports equipment last year and all of it were distributed among their favourite clubs and not for the players. “I personally spend my money and donate sports gear to League clubs and other Leagues across Sri Lanka,” he said.
