31 March, 2019

Asian Winter Series race winner Eshan Pieris of Sri Lanka will be joined by 2018 Asian Formula Renault Series champion Daniel Cao as announced by Absolute Racing to head for the Chinese team’s F3 Asian Championship certified by FIA title assault this season.

Following his superb win in the last race of the inaugural Asian Winter Series, Pieris graduated to F3 Asian Championship for his 2019 campaign. The Sri Lankan driver participated in the post-season test in Sepang, showing impressive pace over the two-day test.

Joining Pieris is the reigning Asian Formula Renault Series Champion Daniel Cao. After a dominant season in Asian Formula Renault Series, the young Chinese is eager to step up to compete in his F3 Asian Championship first full-time campaign and is no stranger to the Tatuus-made car. During the post-season test in Sepang, Cao showed incredible pace on Absolute Racing car.

Speaking about the team’s 2019 line up, Team Manager Martin Young said: “This upcoming season looks like it should be a strong championship again. Following the competitive campaign in the Asia Winter Series, the two drivers we have for this season has shown good promise over. Both Daniel and Eshan have enough know-how to win races and we are coming off the back of a successful Asia Winter Series season where we won five out of nine races with our two drivers. I feel this shows how strong the team is working towards this year. I’m really looking forward to Sepang next week.”

The new season of the F3 Asian Championship certified by FIA takes off on April 6 and 7 in Sepang, Malaysia. In its second season, the five-event Asian championship will also visit FIA Grade 1 racetracks in Thailand, Japan and China with three races at each round between April and September next year.
