Bakmaha Divuruma

7 April, 2019

Citizens across the country took the Bakmaha Divuruma, the national pledge to eradicate drugs and to confirm commitment to control and eliminate drugs last week.

As the efforts by the Police, STF and the Tri- Forces may not be sufficient in combatting the drug menace, school children, public officials and people also took the pledge to play an active role in eradicating drugs from the country.

The inaugural event was held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena at Independence Square in Colombo, with the participation of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, Ministers and Members of Parliament.

The event was aired live through the electronic media and simultaneously telecast to institutions, public offices and schools.

The program is part of the President’s ambitious development agenda under the Api Ekata Sitimu (Let’s Work Together).
