A childhood dream comes true

7 April, 2019

For Dushyanthi Sewickrama, her childhood dream came true when she became the first runner up at the Mrs. Ocean World Contest held on November 23 , 2018 at Hotel Galadari. She also bagged the titles of Ms. Talent and Ms. Fitness.

Though she dreamt of being crowned as a Beauty Queen Dushyanthi never got the chance to enter a beauty contest while she was still a ‘Miss’. Love and marriage came to the fore and she married her sweetheart from her schoodays Gihan Lawrence and took wing to foreign climes. Gihan is employed in the hotel industry.

The Chief Judge at the Mrs. Ocean World pageant veteran actress Malini Fonseka had been very complimentary about Dushyanthi’s looks and personality. She had likened Dushy to a stream of water in a parched land.

This was the first time that Mrs . Ocean World has been held in Sri Lanka and the local franchise holder is Dr. Prasad Devapriya. It is held in other parts of the world annually.

Dushy is currently employed as a presenter on Channel C, a satellite channel. She also does modelling and appears for photo shoots. She has been a TV Presenter on Siyatha and Max TV channels as well as walking the ramp as a model. Her striking good looks, warm personality and intelligence make her an ideal candidate for these professions.

Dance and drama have been Dushy’s passion from her young days and the talent for it runs in her blood. She is the elder daughter of the late Chandrarsiri Sewickrama, a well known figure in the local movie industry. Dushy has been actively involved in dance and drama at her alma mater, Gothami Balika Vidyalaya, Maradana. She is now an exponent of the Kandyan, Bharatha and Kathak dances.

Her career in the TV and movie industry took off when she got a chance to be a dubbing artiste in Sirasa TV’s production of Malgudi days. She also does Hindi –Sinhala translations.

Subsequently Dushy has acted in several teledramas. Ran Thaliya Walauwa, Sithata wahal weema and Poya dramas are among the creations she has acted in.

This versatile young woman holds an external degree in Marketing management (Bsc in Marketing management) from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and has worked as the Brand Manager for Sigma Lifestyle beauty products. She has also worked in an overseas bank.

Dushy’s main job at present is the care of her little two -year -old son Theshal, the apple of her eye. In this her mother Chithra and her sister Kanishka support her.

Dushy is very figure conscious and patronises a gym regularly. She is also particular about her skin, hair, nails; in fact she is interested and ensures her holistic beauty care.

Fashion wise she will always choose what suits her and does not believe in following fashion blindly. She is also careful to not wear anything too revealing.

Food wise she is particular about what she eats and ensures her diet has plenty of veggies and fruit.

Now, Dushyanthi is determined to make a career for herself as a dancer and actress and the pageant has given her the necessary boost to do so. All the while she was away from dance and drama she had felt a void in her life but until recently failed to identify what it was. Now, she has realised that the void has been caused by her not having had dance and drama in her life.

She does not want to leap into the limelight but wants a slow and steady journey to success.

For this devotee of dance and drama today, acting, dance and the movie scene have become very commercialsed and unethical. She hopes to be a game changer in this sphere someday. To aspiring artistes she says work hard and study your subject.

She is a deeply religious person and starts her day by worshipping the Buddha.

Life does not hand everything on a platter to us and it is best for us to carve what is best for us is the view of Dushy.

Good luck to you! Dushy
