S. Duwarshan of the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club created a major upset when he beat top seed Haroon Aslam of Victoria Golf and Country Club, Digana to win the gold division and the Rukmini Kodagoda Trophy at the P&S Junior Golf Championship that concluded at the Ridgeways Course yesterday.

Duwarshan finished the three rounds of match-play event for boys with a good last round of golf in very dry and humid conditions. The prizes were presented by Shanthini Perera, the sister of Rukmini Kodagoda who are the owners of Perera and Sons the sponsors of the tournament.

Taniya Balasuriya is a habitual winner in the girls category and had only to beat her younger sister Shereen Balasuriya in the final to take the Rukmini Kodagoda Trophy in the gold division. As usual she played excellent golf throughout the three days in hot and humid conditions. The prizes were presented by Suneetha Rodrigo also a family member of Kodagoda. It was encouraging to witness many young golfers from the outstations who participated. They would have certainly gathered valuable experience and lessons which can be used during the championship next year.

K. Dalushan was the winner of the silver division with Derek Tejwani finishing in second place.

Reshan Algama won the bronze division for those between the ages of 10 and under. Kaya Daluwatte finished runner-up in the bronze division which was played among boys and girls. (TBR)
