UNP electoral organisers summoned

21 April, 2019

All UNP electoral organisers have been summoned for a special meeting at Sirikotha, the Party headquarters, tomorrow, April 22, to be held under the patronage of Party leader Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Issues relating to reorganising the party, May Day celebrations and other matters including current political developments will be discussed at the meeting, UNP sources said.

Meanwhile, the media had reported that tomorrow’s electoral organisers’ meeting has been called to discuss strategies for an early Presidential election. The issue of the Party’s Presidential candidate is also due to be discussed.

There is media speculation that the dispute between Ministers Sajith Premadasa and Ravi Karunanayake will also receive attention at the meeting. Reliable sources said that it has been decided to use the ‘abolish Executive Presidency’ slogan, as proposed by the JVP in the 20th Amendment, in the hope of enlisting their support during the election campaign.
