Exporters fight back to keep momentum

12 May, 2019

The Exporters Chamber and the export community are working to achieve the set targets in terms of revenue and volumes, despite the setback suffered due to the recent Easter Sunday attacks.

“We as the Chamber and the business community are confident that we could revert to our growth trajectory as fast as possible.

“We all need to get back to our normal life in terms of functioning of offices and factories. We have taken every effort to restore confidence in the buyer communities overseas and is hopeful that we could deliver end results soon,” Immediate Past President of the National Chamber of Exporters, Ramal Jasinghe said.

It is necessary to bring back the workplaces back to normalcy with usual attendance rate to carry out the expected operational processes which will also help support export related activities. We could bounce back quicker than expected, he said.

“The best tribute that we could pay for the people who were affected by the Easter Sunday attacks is to restore normalcy in the country fast. While restoring normalcy we need to be concerned about generating more orders. Proper communication mechanism should be in place to encourage the global buyer community to place more orders with Sri Lanka,” Jasinghe said.

“The country is resilient to these types of drawbacks. However, we need to build the confidence of the international community to accept our position. We are also very sensitive about the feelings of the affected families. We need to show them that we stand united and drive the country’s socio economic development with more vigour,” he said.

The export sector has performed well during the first quarter of this year meeting the targets.

The manufacture and the services sector have recorded growth according to provincial data available.

“We need to build on our good work. It is the best time that we could fuel export growth and we need to have a collective effort to capture more market share by aggressively competing in the global arena for a bigger space,” he said.
