Lanka Spice, a victim of fake news

12 May, 2019

News circulating on social media that McCurrie, a brand owned by Lanka Spice (Pvt) Limited, was directly or indirectly involved in the recent bomb attacks is totally false and is intended to harm the company, a media release from Chairman of Lanka Spice (Pvt) Ltd. Nalin Pathikirikorale stated.

Excerpts of the release:

“I gather that false news is circulating on social media that McCurrie, a brand owned by my company Lanka Spice (Pvt) Limited, was directly or indirectly involved in the Easter Sunday attacks. I categorically state that these statements are false.

This is a fabricated story to harm our company by some unknown party with a sinister agenda. McCurrie is and always has been owned by me, which you can verify from our website.

“The father of two of the suicide bombers is alleged to be one Mohammad Yusuf Ibrahim who owns Ishana Spices. Yusuf Ibrahim and Ishana Spices have no relationship to McCurrie.

“Levelling false allegations at a legitimate Sri Lankan business can only damage our reputation and hurt our business. If you have shared the initial fake news, please share this message to the same parties so that you are not helping the terrorists by spreading fake news and panic and harming the reputation of a proud Sri Lankan business,” the release added.
