Former Sri Lanka Cricket secretary S. Skandakumar joined a high profile Memorial service in Canberra, Australia for victims and survivors of the Easter Sunday bombings of churches and hotels in the island.

Skanda, as he was affectionately called, is now the island’s High Commissioner in Australia and was joined by members of the Sri Lankan Christian, Buddhist, Hindu and Muslim communities residing in Australia at the service held at St. Christopher’s Cathedral in Canberra.

A message from Archbishop Christopher Prowse was read out in English, Sinhala and Tamil.

In a brief and solemn address Skandakumar thanked the Sri Lankan community for the manner in which they had all come together to express their grief and condolences and join in prayer for the victims.

He also acknowledged the presence of the Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove, ambassadors, senators and officials of the Foreign Affairs and Trade Ministries and a cross section of Australians in a congregation of over 500.

Sir Peter Cosgrove also signed the book of condolence at the High Commission that organised the Service along with the Sri Lankan community who also lit candles and took part in a peace vigil.
