The Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) has picked a squad of 31-players in preparation for the World Cup qualifiers to be played against Macau next month.

This pool of players will first be sent to Qatar on May 15 for training and will play two friendly matches there. This will give the coaches and selectors an insight into how much the standard has improved with the training they receive under head coach Nizam Packeer Ali and assisted by Janaka Silva who was appointed recently.

Anura de Silva President of the FFSL said that the pool will be sent to Laos direct from Qatar and play two friendly international matches on May 28 and 31. Judging by their performance the pool will be reduced to 23 players in readiness to meet Macau in the World Cup qualifier.

According to De Silva the venue for the game against Macau is not confirmed as the stadium in Macau is not yet ready to hold matches. Therefore, Macau in all probability will select a neutral venue.

This game against Macau will also serve as a joint qualification Round One game for the AFC Asian Cup 2023 tournament.

The pool sees several inclusions and exclusions from the squad that participated in the SAFF Suzuki Cup in September 2018. (TBR)
