26 May, 2019

Kasun Jayatilleke of the Special Task Force (Police) participated at the World Taekwondo Championship held last week at Manchester, England where 200 countries were represented at this sporting event.

The 25 year old police constable fought in two rounds against a British opponent. Hailing from the rural village of Embilipitiya, he joined the STF in 2015 where he was initially introduced to the martial art by veteran instructor Inspector Kulatunga.

Since then the young policeman has won four gold medals at national level competitions in the 74-80 Kgs category and one at the Korean Embassy Kokkiwan Cup.

Jayatilleke continues to practice with the aim of entering more international events in the future. (DJ)
