Sri Lanka to contest Asian squash

Sri Lanka will be sending 32 squash players and two referees to participate at the Asian Individual Squash Championship to be held from June 26 to 30 in Macau.

The squad will comprise of 16 boys and 16 girls who will have to display their talent at this championship and bring glory to Sri Lanka.

This step is taken after a long lapse of time by Sri Lanka Squash to promote and encourage the game among the players. The squad will be leaving on June 24.

It is also encouraging to note that two referees of high quality are sent to gain experience in international tournaments. They are leading aircraftman Malith Methsiri and sergeant Thushara Wasantha Kumara both from the Air Force who have done well in local tournaments.

The Sunday Observer had previously highlighted the lack of insight by Sri Lanka Squash to promote the game by not conducting enough tournaments at all levels and it is encouraging to note the change in attitude by the keepers of the sport.
