Sri Lankan girls lose, coach blames referee and weather

2 June, 2019

The Sri Lanka netball team touring Botswana in preparation for the 2019 World Cup ended in disappointment when the host team emerged victorious at the end of series winning both matches.

But coach Thilaka Jinadasa is reported to have blamed the referees saying they favoured the home team while also playing in cold weather.

A veteran player said that a good coach will not blame the weather and that they have to prepare for the tournament well in advance with professionalism and not amateur excuses.

Sri Lanka hosted the triangular tournament a couple of months ago and failed to advance having lost all their matches against Malaysia and Kenya who used their junior players in the tournament.

The 11-day tour to Botswana featured six practice matches including two against their National Team. The other four were against top division club teams.

Minister of Housing Sajith Premadasa sponsored the air tickets for the tour of Botswana at a coast of Rs.3.5 million.
