Gomes in women’s commission of international boxing

The President of the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka Dian Gomes has been appointed to the Women’s Commission of the International Boxing Association (AIBA) having being the pioneer promoter of women’s boxing in Sri Lanka.

He is the only Sri Lankan to be part of various AIBA working commissions since 2008 and served as the Secretary of the Marketing Commission (2008 -2009), was member of the Finance Commission (2010 -2011), a member of the Athletes and Youth Commission (2013-2014) and is also a member of the Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) Athletes and Youth Commission since 2010.

Gomes was recently appointed as an executive committee member of the Asian Boxing Confederation and with this new appointment he is actively involved with the Asian Boxing Confederation as well as International Boxing Federation (AIBA).

Gomes counts nearly 20 years as a senior official of the boxing and the first local boxing official to be elected to both the Asian and World body.

Anusha Kodituwakku and Nilmini Jayasinghe are two women boxers who won several international medals for Sri Lanka.
