The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA), marked the World Day Against Child Labour, themed ‘Children shouldn’t work in fields, but on dreams’ on Wednesday by launching a program supporting education for every child. While the NCPA hotline (1929), receives over 9,000 annual complaints over 1,500 are about children who are kept away from mandatory schooling, said NCPA Chair, H.M. Abayarathna.

The program launching ceremony was held the previous week at the Mullaitivu District Secretariat office. Seventy children from the district were presented with school-bags, notebooks and other stationery items.

At the workshop which preceded, students learnt about child labour, child abuse and how to protect themselves from child abuse; as well as about the NCPA and their mandate.
