Badminton in a mess, election postponed for third time

16 June, 2019

Sri Lanka Badminton postponed its election of office bearers for the third time on Thursday and face the threat of a kick-out from membership in the World Badminton Federation.

But an official claimed the election will be held on June 21.

The sport’s world governing body set May 31 as the final deadline to hold the election.

A ban could mean Sri Lanka ousted from contesting the forthcoming South Asian Games while some unscrupulous officials squabble for position and power in a sport that is gradually raising its head from the dumps thanks to the commitment of the players.

Badminton in Sri Lanka is currently in the hands of a so-called government-run Interim Committee since 2017.
