Stage set for 2018 Presidential Sports Awards

The Presidential Sports Award for years 2017 and 2018 are scheduled to held at the BMICH under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe at a date yet to be announced.

The ceremony was scheduled to be held this month but postponed as both the President and Prime Minister were busy with Poson Poya according to Minister of Sports Harin Fernando. Awards for new categories are Kreeda Deshoththara, Kreeda Ratna, Kreedada Bushana and Kreeda Praba presented as once in a lifetime Awards. There are also special awards for sports stars who brought honor to the country by winning medals participating at international competitions. Sports men and women with special needs who competed at the Para Games and won medals too will be considered for awards this year for the first time.

Arrangements have also being made for Special and Best Sports teams awards in various categories.

Nominations received for the Presidential Sports Awards are as follows:

The main four Awards for the Most Outstanding Sportswoman, Most outstanding Sportsman, Most Outstanding Up and Coming Sportswoman and Most Up and Coming Sportsman have been selected by a panel of judges after scrutinizing all nominations received by the Organizers for these major categories.

In addition to these Awards there will be many other awards on offer for personalities who have made valuable contributions in various capacities to uplift sports in the country. Final selections are to be finalized in the very near future by the panel of judges along with Ministry officials.
