Trinity bounce back to beat Thomians 17-11

Trinity College bounced back in the second half and trounced S. Thomas’ College by 17 points to 11 in their inter-school rugby league second round encounter played at Mount Lavinia yesterday.

Trinity collected their points through three tries and a conversion to a try and two penalties by the Thomians. With this win Trinity retained the Canon de Saram Trophy.

The Thomians took an early lead when their place kicker Basula Weerasinghe made no mistake with a penalty kick in the 17th minute of the game.

The home team scored their first try in the 22nd minute when Mohamed Issac went over. The conversion was missed by Weerasinghe who kicked right in an attempt with a penalty a few minutes later to lead 11-0.

With the first half coming close to an end Trinity scored a try through Janithu Ratnayake who went over under the post. The try was converted for Trinity to collect maximum points.

S. Thomas’ led 11-7 at half time.

Trinity found the equalizer when a passing error by the Thomians saw Mahedi Abdulla score a try.

Trinity then applied the pressure on the Thomians towards the end and in the 68th minute Amith Kulatunge scored the final try for the visitors.
