Car-free Sunday in Colombo

The Colombo Municipal Council has teamed up with the Netherlands Embassy to launch a car-free Sunday to reduce the public’s reliance on motor vehicles and to promote a healthier lifestyle in Colombo.

The pilot run of ‘CarFreeCMB’ will on Sunday, July 14 from 6.00 a.m. to 12 noon, and the public is encouraged to join the project by foot, bicycle, skateboard and any other transportation means that is not motored, a statement by the organisers noted.

Several streets will be open on Sunday only for pedestrians and cyclists. They include the Public Library roundabout, part of Dr. C.W.W. Kannangara Mawatha, Stanley Wijesundera Mawatha and Bauddhaloka Mawatha.
