CID to record a statement from IGP

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officials will visit IGP Pujith Jayasundara who is receiving treatment at the Police Hospital, Narahenpita to record a statement regarding an incident where he allegedly threatened a police officer.

Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake granted approval for the CID in this regard on Friday.

The CID is probing into the case after the police officer, an elevator operator at the Police Headquarters, filed a complaint at the CID. The CID requested the permission of the court to release a CD submitted with the CCTV footage of the event for investigations. It also informed the court that statements were recorded from IGP’s security officers.

The case will be taken up again on September 4.

The IGP sought medical care after he was sent on compulsory leave for his failure to intervene and prevent the Eater Sunday bombings that killed over 250 people.
