Homer and Rohan still the best Masters

Clarence Homer and Rohan de Silva stole the limelight in the men’s category at the Senior Badminton Championship while in the women’s category Chandrika de Silva came up with flying colours at the Sugathadasa indoor stadium last Sunday.

Ceylon Masters Badminton Association conducted the Championship for the third successive year minus foreign participation.

Rohan de Silva, president of SLBA and Ceylon Masters Badminton Association who combined with Sunil Galabodage won the 65 plus category and later went on to win the Combined 100 plus along with former National Champion for nine years Niroshan Wijekoon to clinch a double.

Clarence Homer, another veteran in badminton clinched a triple when he won the men’s doubles partnering Upendra Jayawardane in the 40 plus, 45 plus and joined up with Nihal Amarasena to win the100 plus to take away three medals. In the women’s class another former national champion Chandrika de Silva playing in the 45 plus doubles event along with Ranjani Seneviratne defeated Vipuli Abeysekera and Kaushalya Ratnayake to win in straight sets.

All former senior badminton players displayed their best at the championship to show the young and aspiring players that this is a sport that keeps all involved in good health and fitness. The Awards ceremony was held in the evening.
