Shilpasena 2019: Entrepreneurs display novel products

28 July, 2019

The trade, services and technology exposition ‘Shilpasena 2019’ organised by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Research which concluded last week showcased new products and service offerings while updated technologies were also displayed.

The four-day exhibition and trade fair attracted large crowds from all age groups and different strata of society which catered to diverse needs of children, youth and adults.

There were many stalls exhibiting innovative products and modern technology and a dedicated technology zone was there to entertain schoolchildren and youth who are willing to become technology savvy.

One of the highlights of the exhibition were the emerging entrepreneurs from different Vidatha Centres across the country displaying their novel products and services attracting business enthusiasts and people interested in buying new products as well as services.

One of the concerns that these entrepreneurs had was that they were not given enough prominence in displaying their capabilities. “We needed a better display option and if this was in place it would have generated more business for us.

However, we are thankful for the opportunity given to build market links and expect better support from the policy makers in the future,” an entrepreneur who produces vegetarian food items such as snacks and bites, P. Thilakarathna said.

These emerging entrepreneurs also had to pay the stall fees and this was an extra burden on them.

“The government should have provided us with stalls at a nominal fee to encourage budding entrepreneurs to capture the market. The stall placing was not to our advantage and more visitors were attracted to other stalls which were displaying competitive products and services which were at better display areas,” he said.

“We have plans to form a group under the Vidatha label. This will enable us to collectively work towards the betterment of the members.

We will be able to achieve much more through team effort and we could have a voice to air our concerns to the relevant authorities in an organised manner,” he said.

The exhibition organisers plan to conduct similar Shilpasena expositions in key locations of the country.
