Badminton pair loses

Sri Lanka Badminton’s (SLB) aim of sending a women’s doubles pair to the 2020 Olympic Games has ended in disaster with the pair losing in the first round in their quest to qualify.

With the qualifying stage just started SLB had sent their best women’s pair of Thilini Hendahewa and Kavidi Sirimannage to Nigeria to participate in the Lagos International Badminton Classic.

However, they could not go beyond the first round losing to a highly ranked Indian pair in straight sets 21-16, 21-12.

The Indian pair of K Maneesha and Rutaparna Panda won the next two rounds as well to enter the semi-final before losing to a Chinese pair.
