Former national rugby player Fazil Marija has taken over as the head coach of the Kandy SC rugby team with Viraj Prasantha as his assistant while two players of the club Arshad Jamaldeen and Dimthri Wijetunga have crossed over to CH and FC.
Fazil Marija is a knowledgeable rugby coach and former player of Kandy SC and the Sri Lanka team. He previously coached the club as an assistant and was the head coach of the Sevens team.
Marija was known as one of Sri Lanka’s and Asia’s finest players. He led Kandy SC in 2010 and 2015 as well as the Sri Lanka team. He retired after the 2018 Clifford Cup knockouts and took to coaching due to the encouragement given by South African Johan Taylor.
Prasantha is a former CR and FC and Sri Lanka hooker with plenty of coaching experience.
He is an astute thinker having played the game at the highest level with an international rugby board level two accreditation as a coach.
He went on to captain CR in 1996 and Sri Lanka in 1998.
