Channa Pathirana at the helm of Trinity Scrummage

Channa Pathirana came in as the new president of the Old Trinitians Rugby Scrummage when he was elected at its AGM last Saturday at the Orient Club.

He took over the post from another top prompter P. Sivasubramanium while the patron is the school principal Andrew Fowler-Watt.

During his playing days Pathirana was a knowledgeable forward and in 1988 played under the captaincy of Bindu Dandeniya while some of his team mates of that year were Rohan Ranaraja, Thaksala Hettiarachchi, Shammi Upendra, Anuruddha Abeywickrema, Prabath Harshakumara, Manjula Wijesinghe, Samantha Ratwatte, Noel Abrahams, Riza Odayar, Suren Ching, Krishantha Bandaranayake, Sardha Attanayake, Yohan Wijetilleke and Nilanka Nanayakara.

In 1989 he played a few games for Kandy SC as a schoolboy and had to keep away from rugby due to higher studies. His two vice presidents are Ashan Ratwatte and Thakshila Hettiarachchi while the new secretary is Amil Ramanathan and the treasurer Asanka Ranhotti.

In the Committee are Janindha Dunuwile, Nilantha Ratnayake, MTLJ Perera, Harris Omar, Murad Ramzeen, DNR Fernando, Thusith Inok, Lakmal Tennakoon and SW Chang.

Old Trinitians Rugby Scrummage (OTRS) is an organization affiliated to the Old Boys Association of Trinity College Kandy and manages rugby across all age groups at the school under the guidance of the principal.

It remains responsible in the areas of management, administration and coaching of rugby at Trinity.

The main object of the Scrummage is to promote the advancement and progress of rugby in concurrence with the principal, to enlist the support of former rugby players of the school, to foster fellowship among all former players and raise funds in support of Trinity rugby.

It also functions in an advisory capacity and financially wherever possible and bringing together the fellowship of all former players.
