A taste of Switzerland

Each year on August 1, the Swiss people celebrate their founding anniversary which dates back to 1291. The founding anniversary celebrates diversity through unity which brings together the 26 individual canton flags flying alongside the grand and familiar national flag, the white cross against the red background.

Keeping in line with traditional festivities, the Swiss Embassy in collaboration with the masters of cuisine Mount Lavinia Hotel will host and unveil a unique concept of ‘Swissness’ with their pop-up restaurant the ‘Colombo Swiss House’.

The ‘Colombo Swiss House’ will run for a period of two weeks from August 15 to 27, 2019 in the heart of Colombo at 138/4 Kynsey Road, Colombo 7 (next to the UNOPS office). The restaurant will feature some of the finest dishes of Swiss cuisine and will present the ideal opportunity for people to enjoy a gastronomical adventure of Switzerland. Swiss cuisine combines the reflection of culinary tradition from many regional influences which include French, German and Italian. The Swiss being historically a country of farmers have played significant roles in influencing the plain, easy going, simple ingredients infused Swiss dishes which often comprise of cheese and potatoes.

What to expect?

Expect nothing short of a gastronomical treat which stays true to the traditional elements of Swiss cuisine. Indulge in cheese dishes such as ‘Raclette’ and ‘Fondue’ accompanied with Swiss wines to your hearts content in an authentic Stübli which will feature unique rudiments of Switzerland to further harness a real Swiss atmosphere.
