First car assembly plant at Welipenna

Mahindra & Mahindra (M & M), a billion dollar global enterprise headquartered in India with its local partner Ideal Motors launched its first passenger car assembly plant in Welipenna in the Kalutara district yesterday. The plant was inaugurated in the presence of the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, the Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Taranjit Singh Sandhu and Managing Director of M & M Limited Pawan Goenka. The plant was set up with an investment of Rs.2 billion. The unit will have an installed yearly capacity of up to 5,000 units and will provide direct and indirect employment for about 200 people over the next two years.
