Dissanayake and Seneviratne sisters win tennis titles

25 August, 2019

Sharmal Dissanayake clinched the men’s Singles crown for the fourth successive year at the 104th National tennis championship held at the SLTA courts in Colombo last Sunday while the Seneviratne sisters won the Doubles prize.

Dissanayake overcame Heera Ashiq in straight sets in the final. The current top seeded men’s player Dissanayake was once again at his best form and found little resistance coming from Ashiq.

The women’s Doubles crown was won by the Seneviratne sisters Anika and Alana who defeated Anjalika Kurera and Rukshika Wijesuriya whose fightback in the second set was not enough to subdue the ultimate winners.

The first set was easily won by the sisters without conceding a single point. However, the second set saw Anjalika and Rukshika fightback and extending the set to the full limit before losing on the tie breaker.

On the previous day Anjalika Kurera had bagged the women’s Single title.

Results:

Men’s Singles

Sharmal Dissanayake beat Heera Ashiq 6/3, 6/2

Women’s Doubles

Anika Seneviratne and Alana Seneviratne beat Anjalika Kurera and Rukshika Wijesuriya 6/0, 7/6 (6)
