Nuwan and Buddhika share best award at Para Games

Sri Lanka Light Infantry and Rehab Lanka SC emerged men’s and women’s champions at the National Para championships concluded at the Sugathadasa Stadium on Friday as Nuwan Indika from the Sri Lanka Light Infantry and Buddhika Indrapala of the Commando regiment jointly won the men’s best athlete award.

It was very competitive among the para athletes and 30 new meet records were established.

Both Nuwan and Buddhika won three gold medals in their respective events to set up new meet records.

Thisara Jayasinghe from Rehab Lanka was adjudged the best female athlete for her excellent performances in the throwing events.

She won the Shot Put, Javelin Throw and Discuss Throw for gold medals and also set up new meet records in this all three events.

Amila Prashan who won the 100m and 200m gold medals at the last Para Asian Games in Jakartha was adjudged the best athlete of the year award.

Prashan was also able to set up new Asian records while Rehab Lanka and Ratmalana Blind School won the overall junior boys and girls championships.

The National Paralympic Committee paved the way for three disability groups namely men and women with visual impairments, physical impairments and intellectual disabilities to showcase their talents in this meet. A total of 190 track and field events were conducted as over 800 para athletes from 45 clubs affiliated to the National Paralympic Committee took part at during the two days.
