BCCS Awards: Ceylon Chamber holds briefing session

15 September, 2019

The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce conducted a briefing session and a panel discussion on the application process of the Best Corporate Citizen Sustainability Awards (BCCS) 2019, recently.

The competition has lined up an array of awards to recognise the best performers in corporate sustainability initiatives in Sri Lanka, pertaining to Employee Relations, Community Relations, Economic Contribution and Governance, Customer Relations and the Environment, recognising exemplary sustainability efforts carried out by companies with a focus on People, Planet and Profit.

A common query during the briefing was over applying for category awards, and of whether ongoing projects were eligible for the award. The Panel of Evaluators clarified that the category awards winners will be identified upon submission of duly completed application of the BCCS Awards, and that applicants cannot submit applications focusing on only one particular category award.

“You can’t apply for only one category – the entire application for the main award, has to be filled out. If your company scores enough marks under it, they will automatically be eligible for the category awards,” Oshadhi Kodisinghe, one of the organisers at the Ceylon Chamber, said. Ongoing projects of the previous year can also be submitted, but only if there are visible and measurable results for the last financial year. The event is an opportunity for local corporate firms to display their sustainability initiatives to the public and reach a wider stakeholder group, thus enhancing their corporate reputation. Applications for both the Best Corporate Citizen and the Best Sustainability awards will be open until October 11.
