Friendship

22 September, 2019

Lying cozily on a sofa one evening,
When travelling along memory lane
Unravelling the childhood days
So dear to me
I remember you,
With a tiny vermilion dot
On your tan forehead
Clad in a sea blue dress,
Seated at the piano
Playing “Doh ray me…..’’
I remember the way we played
Hopscotch after-school,
With mango seeds;
How we were punished
Under the staircase case
For plucking jumbu from the garden
On a Sunday by our warden,
How we sent letters home secretly,
Complaining the food was awful,
How we had midnight feasts,
When others were fast asleep;
How we quarreled with each other
For trivial things;
became friends the next minute
Friends in childhood
Are like shining stars
That glitters in distant paths.
