The British Council Library Kandy Hosts Kumar Sangakkara

13 October, 2019

On Thursday September 12, the British Council Library, Kandy hosted the legendary cricketer Kumar Sangakkara for an educational event. Kumar was invited to talk of and answer questions on the 'Lahore Attack' which is an extract from the 'Colin Cowdrey, spirit of the game' lecture, that Kumar delivered at Lords in 2011. This extract is now a component in the Ordinary Level English Literature syllabus.  The British Council was filled to capacity with almost 150 students and teachers who waited with baited breath for Kumar’s arrival.

Moderated by Marlon Aryasinghe, the event began on a lighter note. Kumar then spoke of his real life experience,  it’s impact on the team members and how they coped with it in the immediate aftermath. Kumar then responded to questions from the audience. After sitting down to a brief interview with the British Council, marketing and communications unit, he graciously accommodated all requests for photographs and autographs.

Gill Caldicott, the Country Director British Council, Sri Lanka and Georgina Middleton, Branch Manager, Kandy, attended this event which was streamed live via facebook and Instagram.
