Technically sound opening batsman and right arm off spinner Kanishka Dissanayake has been showing promise for St. Joseph’s College in the Division One Under-13 all-island inter school cricket tournament.

Last year as captain Dissanayake played in the Under-13 A team as an opener and was the second highest run maker in the Joes camp with 311 runs in 12 matches for an average of 44.43. He scored three consecutive half centuries in the aggregate.

Dissanayake has fast gained a name as a game changer and match-winning player. In 2017 when he played in the Under-13 Division II tournament match against S De S Jayasinghe Maha Vidayalaya, he bagged five wickets for 10 runs as the Joes won the match with a bonus point and the team qualified to the second round stage.

He was the second highest scorer with 207 runs in nine matches and was joint highest wicket taker with 17 scalps in the tournament.

Dissanayake was adjudged the Best Batsman of the inaugural Joes Junior Cricket Carnival in 2018 and was player of the tournament in 2019 as is viewed by his coaches as a player of the future.
