Royal College boy wins nine golds in weightlifting

Janmod Silva a student of Royal College has brought glory to his motherland by winning nine gold medals and a silver at the recently concluded Commonwealth Powerlifting Championships 2019 held in St John’s New Foundland, Canada.

Janmod competed in the 105kg Sub Junior category to achieve high class performances during the Championship which was worked off on six days. With these achievements at present he is ranked eighth in the world for this 105 kg Sub Junior Category. Jamod also went on to record his personal best lifts in the Bench Press and Dead lifts which also helped him immensely to win the medals. Janmod commenced his career as a schoolboy at Royal College in the Junior Class in the 93kg category and at present he competes in the 105kg category. He performed well competing at the Junior Nationals and Novices Championships and showed great success winning many medals during this period.

In addition Janmod came up with flying colours in his studies passing the GCE O/L and A/L exams in English.

The father and son combination of Mothilal and Ransilu Jayatilleke contributed chiefly to Janmod’s success.
