Sri Lankan second stringers lose Bangladesh series

13 October, 2019

Bangladesh’s Saif Hassan, shining with the bat (117) and ball (2-12) set up a bad day for Sri Lanka A which suffered a 98-run Duckworth and Lewis System (DLS) defeat to lose the series 1-2, when play was stopped for bad light in the third and final one-dayer at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo yesterday.

Chasing an uphill target of 323, the home side lost their openers cheaply. From 97 for two it slipped to four for 103 with Saif Hassan removing skipper Ashan Priyaranjan (34).

Ambidextrous Kamindu Mendis, fought his share of resistance with 55 comprising three sixes but their chase only deteriorated at six down for 130. The game never resumed after the interruption and the tourists wrapped up the win.

The Sri Lankans winning the toss and asking their counterparts to bat first, let them off-the-hook for a century opening-wicket partnership as Mohammad Naim brought up a quick fire half-ton inclusive of two sixes.

Before he could make much progress, he was ruled out, in the rarest mode of dismissals for obstructing the field on 66. However, his partner Hassan, played and progressed to bring up an anchoring innings of 117 with three sixes and 12 fours.

Scores:

Bangladesh A 322 for 9 in 50-overs. (S Hassan 117, M Naim 66, S Fernando 4-50, V Fernando 3-69)

Sri Lanka A 130 for 6 in 24.4 overs (S Hassan 2-12, A Priyaranjan 36)
