The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) will not boycott the presidential election, according to Batticaloa District MP S. Yoheswaran.

The MP told the media in Batticaloa last week that the TNA will not boycott the election under any circumstance though the party is yet to extend their support to a candidate.

“Parties, such as TELO, PLOTE, EPRLF and TMK have joined with us in this stance,” he said, adding that politicians, such as Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam of the All Ceylon Tamil Congress (ACTC) are, however, advocating a boycott. Yoheswaran said the TNA will not agree to this. “The vote is our only weapon to achieve our goals and rights,” he said. “We are a community that has faced numerous difficulties, and we must use this opportunity to make a change,” he added.

According to him, the Tamils of the North and East will support the candidate whom the TNA decides to support. “The TNA is having talks with the two main candidates. Whoever assures a proper solution to the aspirations of the Tamils will get our support,” he said.
