A workshop in progress.

Fuelled by a desire to contribute to encourage entrepreneurship in Sri Lanka, Seylan Bank conducted several educational seminars this year across Sri Lanka.

Recognised as the backbone of the Sri Lankan economy, the SME sector continues to play a pivotal role through its contributions to economic growth islandwide. The Bank has conducted seminars and workshops in Tissamaharama, Siyambalanduwa, and Beliatta with approximately 400 participants.

The workshops, held under the patronage of representatives from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, were aimed at the local farming community and small-scale SMEs. These workshops focused on increasing knowledge and awareness on the importance of financial literacy. Participants were also advised on the types of skills that would nurture a mindset required to run a successful business, as well as any foreseeable challenges which may arise when running a business.

More comprehensive seminars on entrepreneurship and facing its challenges within the current macro-economic climate were also held in Kandy and Ampara. The Kandy program was held in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Central Province.

The seminars were attended by top local business members and community leaders, and participants were addressed by Hasitha Wijesundara - a Senior Economist and Business Development professional with expertise in Policy, International Trade, Finance, SME Development and Microfinance.
