AAVA members apprehended

An imminent incident, involving 14 members of the underworld Aava group was thwarted and they were apprehended, in the Tharmapuram as well as Pudhukudiyiruppu areas, in the late hours of Friday (15).

Police said, the nabbed group were en-route to Mullaitivu from Jaffna, plying on motorbikes. Two of them were caught by the public and handed over to the Police, in the Suthanthirapuram area.

Based on the duo’s tip-off, two others commuting in a three-wheeler and 10 in a bus were handcuffed by Puthukudiyiruppu and Tharmapuram Police divisions, respectively.

Though, the suspects attempted to flee from arrest, they were still thwarted by the public and handed over toPolice custody in Puthukudiyiruppu.

In addition to the arrests, sharp weapons discovered in the bus were also taken in to custody. Preliminary investigations have uncovered, that the plot had been planned during a lengthy period.

Police have identified the arrested as residents from Aanaikottai, Koolaavadi and Manipay.
