President Gotabaya Rajapaksa made his maiden foreign visit to India last week after assuming office as President of Sri Lanka. In appreciation of close mutual relations between Sri Lanka and India, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi pledged an aid package to boost the economy and security by opening a line of credit to offer US$ 400 million for infrastructure development and US$ 50 million for enhancing Sri Lanka’s capabilities to counter terrorist activities. Earlier, the Indian government had extended its assistance to provide housing facilities for those displaced in the Northern and the Eastern areas of Sri Lanka.
