:Different, an Australian tech startup focused on property management, reaffirmed its commitment to Sri Lanka by doubling down on its investment in the country through a multi-million dollar investment to build an engineering culture and a talent pool to cater to global business.

“We want to hire the best technology engineers to be apart of the global team to build great products,” :Different Co-founder Ruwin Perera said during a brief stay in Colombo last week.

He said Sri Lanka has the talents that are on par with the rest of the world and our aim is to create the next generation talent pool in the country.

“We want to grow that team hiring more talents to expand our global market,” Perera said.

:Different expanded into its third market, Brisbane, while raising their second round of capital totalling A$3.5million co-led by AirTree Ventures, one of Australia’s biggest venture capital funds, alongside highly regarded Australian real estate VC fund PieLAB.

With operations in three cities in Australia, :Different eyes USA as its next market. Having launched operations in Colombo couple of years ago, the company has 18 employees and hopes to increase it to around 50 by end 2020.

The investment into the Colombo office includes making senior personnel hires, moving key operational functions, customer management, customer experience, maintenance and supplier relationships.

“We are building the best engineering culture in Sri Lanka by ensuring exposure to world class talent. We want to create the elite of the elite and the only way to do that is by having people work closely with the best in the world,” Perera said.

“Sri Lankan tech engineers will gain exposure by working with world class talent of the likes of Mina Radhakrishnan,” co founder of :Different, Joel Pinkham said.
