Kandy SC escape Navy juggernaut

8 December, 2019

Defending League rugby champions Kandy Sports Club continued their winning streak in the inter club arena with a hard fought victory over Navy SC at Nittawela yesterday.

Kandy SC was somewhat lucky to claim a 16 points (two tries and two penalties) to 14 (two goals) win as the Navy team threatened to cause an upset despite trailing 0-16 at half time.

But despite trailing in the first half the Navy team made it tough for the home side especially at the breakdowns as the winners managed to get through using their experience to good effect.

Navy made a big difference after the break and Kandy SC had to use their stronger forwards to halt several forays made by their rivals who scored two tries and converted that gave the home team the jitters.

Overall the Navy players although losing left the field with their heads raised high after coming close to staging an upset win.

Kandy SC scored their tries through Oshan Perera and Kavinda Perera while the goal kicking was done by Thilina Wijesinghe.

Navy SC player Adiesha Nieeratng and Gehan Perera scored their tires.
