Old Kingswoodians win Kandy hockey title

Old Kingswoodians clinched the league hockey title in the Kandy District Hockey Association men’s league tournament by beating Old Sylvestrians in the final by five goals to two.

The third place went to Old Vidyarthians.

The champion Old Kingswoodians scored their five goals through CL Sumanarathne, KP Warnasiri two goals each and one by SK Obeyasiri.

For the Silver medal winners Sylvestrians two goals came off the stick of SP Marasinghe and LE Jayewardene.

On the way to the finals in the semifinal Old Kingswoodains SC beat Old Vidyarthans 5-1 and Old Sylvestrians beat Wonders SC 3-1. The third place was won by Old Vidyartha SC who got the bronze medals, they beat Wonders SC by 2 goal 1.

In this well organised and well played tournament eight teams took part and the best goal keeper’s award went to I.S. Bandara of Wanders SC, the best player award went to Kavindu Ratnayake old Kingswoodians SC.

A big hand should go to the president of the KDCA R. Maheshwaran the Secretary A.M. Ashroff and the rest of the Committee for a good job well done and also to the University of Peradeniya for providing the ground.

The final was played under the patronage of former Trinity College hockey player Wazeer Mukthar.
