Adjournment debate on Policy Statement on Jan. 7 and 8

The two-day adjournment debate on the Policy Statement presented to Parliament by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on Friday (January 3) will be held in Parliament on January 7 and 8 from 1.00 pm to 6.30 pm.

The decision on the two-day adjournment debate had been taken during a meeting with political party leaders held at the parliamentary complex on Friday, parliamentary sources told the Sunday Observer.

However, there will be no vote in this regard since it will be held as an adjournment debate.

Meanwhile, it has also been decided to take the vote of condolence on the late Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne on January 9 following the adjournment debate.

Deputy Speaker Ananda Kumarasiri, Ministers Dinesh Gunawardena, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Johnston Fernando, Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa, UNP MPs Lakshman Kiriella, Gayantha Karunatilleke, Ajith P. Perera and TNA MP M.A Sumanthiran were present at the Friday’s Party Leaders meeting chaired by Speaker Karu Jayasuriya.
