Kandy SC produced another scintillating performance in the first half to pile on the points and overwhelmed CR & FC by 41 points to 27 to stay unbeaten in the Dialog Rugby League at Longdon Place yesterday.

Kandy SC started with some fierce and speedy running to obtain their points through six tries, four conversions and a penalty to one penalty-try, three tries, a conversion and a penalty that left CR the host team pathetically behind at full time.

By the first twelve minutes of the game Kandy SC had piled on 17 points with their first try being scored in the fifth minute by winger Kavindu Perera who put the finishing touches to a three-quarter move.

Dansha Dayan the full back had a hand in their second try in the ninth minute, that too off a three-quarter move. Then Tharinda Ratwatte put over a penalty and then after a clever try by scrum half Roshan Weeraratne and the conversion by Ratwatte Kandy took a 24-nil lead by the 20th minute.

This was how good the Kandy players were taking the opportunities given to them by a somewhat disorganized CR team early in the game.

Then CR obtained three points through a penalty put over by Rizah Mubarak in the 25th minute but failed to impress in their pattern of play.

Kandy scored again through full back Dayan who joined the line and found the opening to go through.

Five minutes later CR scored their first try when scrum half Kavindu de Costa was at hand to pick up a loose ball and go through just five metres of open space. Mubarak converted and CR took their score to ten points.

With time ticking out Jason Dissanayake put the finishing touches to a move on receiving a pass from Nigel Ratwatte. Tharinda Ratwatte put over the conversion and Kandy SC led 36-10 at the half time.

It was CR’s turn to score in the second half. They won a line out and off a rolling maul Supun Warnakulasooriya went over with the ball. Refaideen took the kick at goal in the absence of Mubarak and failed to covert.

CR made use of another rolling maul off a line-out and when the maul was willingly brought down referee Jonathan pointed out a penalty-try.

Three minutes later CR scored again when scrum half Kavindu de Costa kicked ahead and after the Kandy defence fumbled with the ball Janidu Dilshan received a pass and went over the line. This try too went unconverted with de Costa missing the kick.

With the scores reading Kandy leading 36-27 they scored their final try when off a scrum they went on the blind side and fly half Nigel Ratwatte received a reverse pass to go over the line unchallenged.
