Police first to enter Vantage FA Cup football semis

Police Sports Club became the first team to qualify for the semi finals of the ongoing Vantage FA Cup Championship when they trounced Civil Security SC by five goals to two yesterday at the Sugathadasa stadium.

Three minutes in to the first half Civil Security got ahead when Nadeep Priyanka found the net to make it 1-0. They failed to hold on to this lead for long as Police SC’s Ashan Siriwardena netted the equalizer in the tenth minute making the game more interesting for all present.

Police strikers were on the attack from there on which brought good results with Chathura Guneratne making no mistake with a free kick awarded to them just two meters away from the danger area levelling the score line 2-2.

It has to be noted that Police SC would have been well ahead with many scoring opportunities that were thwarted by the goal keeper who was outstanding for Civil Security team.

He saved more than five kicks taken by the strikers.

After the return around Police went on the attack from the word go and got ahead through to take the lead when Udaya Kumara struck the net in the sixth minute of the second half.

During this period Police SC players dominated by controlling the ball with good passing giving no chances to the opponents to penetrate the defense line.

This tactic helped them to get another goal through MJR Mohamed which was declared by the referee after consulting the linesman for his decision as the goalie was inside the line when the ball struck the keeper and rebounded into play.

During injury tine Nilantha Pathirana who received a good pass from his brother Sampath made no mistake with his kick to add the fifth goal and seal match in favor of the Police at 5-2.
