Rugby fans in Kandy and even in other rival places will be very sad to hear what former Havelocks Fiji player Salu Salu who is in town conveyed to Nimal Lewke his former Kandy SC coach when he inquired about them.

Under Lewke’s coaching Kandy SC won the triple crown for the first time in 1995.

During this time Kandy SC had some brilliant international Fijian players like “the Man Mountain” Manasa Qoro, brilliant tactician Kitty, power packed Batti, Opethi Thuruwa and Nagata.

But Lewke learnt that except for Nagata and Thuruwa, the others are no more.

Lewke told Salu that they were not just international standard players, but God-fearing as well who always respected the coach and very well disciplined who kept to the game plan. Lewke recalled in his meeting with Salu how Manasa used to sarcastically say in Sinhalese: “Coach Bayai CR Ekata” meaning the coach is afraid of rival team CR before matches.
