The 42nd annual cricket encounter between Trinity and Nalanda will be played for the Mahela-Sanga Challenge Trophy at the Asgiriya Stadium on January 20 and 21.

This encounter between the two schools began in 1978 and this year the game will be played with the theme ‘Spirit of Cricket Legacy for Future Generations’.

The glittering trophy is named after two cricketing greats produced by these two respected schools, Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardena.

Mahela and Sanga as they are endearingly called, are two cricketing greats who have shown their willingness to contribute to society on countless occasions. The friendship and bond between them is a classic example of their commitment to the sport and to society in general.

Trinity College together with the Nalanda College 88 Group batch under the auspices of Nalanda College Old Boys Association and Nalanda College Past Cricketers Association are organizing this traditional annual encounter.

Last year in the inaugural trophy encounter Trinity beat Nalanda outright by 47 runs to be the first holders of this prestigious silverware.
