Sri Lanka team wins Master Card golf Classic

The second edition of the NEGC Master Card Inter Nation Golf Classic was played last week at the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club where representatives from nine countries India, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, USA, UK and Sri Lanka as well as a Combined Asian team contested.

Each country was represented in multiple teams of four players where the best 3 stableford cards within each team of four were considered for the winning prize.

The Sri Lankan team D represented by Janaka Gallangoda, Chamara Abeyratne, Tharanga Gunasekara and Priyanga Hapugalle emerged winners with the Malaysian team coming up as the first runner up and the Korean team as the second runner-up. In the individual category, the winner of the best gross score was Kushal Johnpillai from Sri Lanka and Lim Ah Hock from Malaysia won the prize for the best net score.

The event commenced with a practice day on Friday 11th and a colourful tournament event where the team announcements were made by the respective captains. A prize was also on offer for the team with the best national costume which was won by team India.

Santosh Kumar, country head of Master Card was the Guest of Honour and thanked NEGC for conducting a memorable event and promised to make it an even bigger event in the following year.

The President of NEGC expressed his delight with the participation and enthusiasm shown among the golfers who came up to Nuwara Eliya and especially those who flew in very specially for the event.
