Over 300 leading drivers and riders have entered to contest the 24th Eliyakande Hill Climb to be held on February 23 in Matara organized by the Southern Motor Sports Club (SMSC) which is the opening event for the year 2020.

A stunt motor cycle show is also arranged for racing fans.

These details were disclosed by Dr. Sanjaya Sedara Senarath the President of SMSC at a media briefing held in Colombo.

The track covering nearly 600 metres is packed with four challenging corners which the drivers and riders have to negotiate without any mishaps and the organizers of the event have done a fine job to improve the track and make it safe for competitors. This is the reason the Eliyakande Hill Climb has become the first choice for all drivers and riders.

The competitors will get an opportunity to have practice runs on February 22 and this is also one of the tracks that give the opportunity for Formula cars to compete on. With Formula cars on the track many thrills and spills can be expected with most of the Formula drivers having confirmed their participation.

Four time National champion Ashan Silva of the Hutch Super Series who drives a Mitsubishi Evo holds the record for SL-GT with a time of 32.61 seconds last year. Darin Weerasinghe clocked the best time of 32.80 seconds last year driving his Subaru Legacy WRX STI to erase his own record.

This year too a hot battle for supremacy can be witnessed from these two drivers as they will be looking forward to carry away the most prestigious Preethi Palliyaguru Challenge Trophy on offer for the best time of the day.

Mobitel Telecom Lanka is the main sponsor of the Eliyakande Hill Climb 2020 while the other sponsors are CEAT, Mobil, Stafford Motors and Yamaha.
