President Gotabaya Rajapaksa places the casket containing the Sacred Buddha relics on the tusker at the Gangarama Temple, Colombo during the final day of the Navam Maha Perahera yesterday. Drummers, dancers and some 50 trained elephants, mostly from the central parts of the island, thronged to Colombo from various regions of Sri Lanka to participate in the city’s biggest two-day annual Buddhist procession that coincides with Navam Poya in February every year.
